Diversions, vol. 79
Hello, it’s me, your least consistent newsletter writing friend. If you’re shaking your head at my unreliable nature, I accept your judgement. These last couple of months, I’ve been working at a delirious pace and have mostly been avoiding my favorite internet watering holes, in an attempt to avoid procrastination. Last week, I took a bunch of time off to celebrate my sister-in-law’s wedding and found myself with enough time and head space to dawdle around online like in the olden days!
Speaking of the olden days, this op-ed about the Tumblr sale to Wordpress by Kara Swisher gave me all of the nostalgia.
Before I jump into silliness, The Hoxton (a very cute hotel brand) is doing a crazy deal for their new Los Angeles opening. It’s $129/night with the promo code SUNSHINE and it ends today (the 16th). You can book rooms through April 2020 with the code.
My TikTok enthusiasm has hit overdrive now that I’ve discovered this otter account on there. Otters, they’re so cute.
I was feeling extra adultish after identifying so intensely with everything on this “sex is cool but you tried being a woman in your 30s” list. Not using a coaster on a fancy table at your number one frenemies house is what petty dreams are made of.
My blogging has been about as consistent as my newsletter writing this year but I’ve managed to squeeze out a few things: a camera comparison between Nikon, Canon, Fuji & Sony cameras, how I think about photography pricing and an intro to Lightroom CC.
While I’ve been avoiding internet dawdling, I have been reading a ton this year. It’s a good way to kill time while commuting between shoots. Anyway, Normal People by Sally Rooney is by far my fave read of the summer. I am still torn up from it.
If you don’t have time for a long read, The Crane Wife was also incredibly beautiful and moving.
Lastly, my skincare obsession that started with Rio Viera-Newton’s strategist article about her favorite skincare products has finally reached peak absurdity and I need someone to block the /AsianBeauty subreddit on my computer. Thanks. Also, block me from buying anymore corsx products on Amazon. I am literally obsessed with their snail mucin, bha toner and pimple patches.
Diversions is my way of sharing links of interesting things that I’ve come across recently. To see past diversions or subscribe visit https://tinyletter.com/AdventuresOnceHad.
